Shubman Gill an opener for Team India, has reportedly tested positive for dengue

Shubman Gill, an opener for Team India, has reportedly tested positive for dengue. He is likely to miss the opening match of the 2023 Cricket World Cup against Australia on Sunday, October 8.

Gill missed a training session in Chennai on Thursday due to dengue fever. He was complaining of fever and pain in his lower legs.

Symptoms of dengue include:

  • Red eyes
  • Sharp pain in the eyes
  • Severe pain in muscles, bones, and joints
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Swollen glands
  • Skin rashes
  • Fever reaching 102 to 104 degrees

The medical team will make the final decision on whether Gill can play. If the illness is a normal viral fever, Gill might still play with antibiotic treatment.

India's two opening options are left-handed Rohit Sharma and right-handed KL Rahul. Rohit Sharma is likely to open the innings for India in the World Cup first match against Australia.
